From childhood it all began
Pencils to sketch at first
To paint watercolors was my plan
I said “That’s the kind of Artist I am”
What fun it was playing with clay
As it squished through my little hands
Building coils, on coils, to beat the band
I said “That’s the kind of Artist I am”
College studies: drawing, painting
And even design, one, two, three
I thought commercial art was for me
I said “That’s the kind of Artist I am”
I pursued Hanna Barbera, tried my level best
They soon invited me, an apprentice I would be
Scooby Doo, Flinstone’s, Johnny Quest
Inker, painter, Special Effects, was for me
I said “That’s the kind of Artist I am”
Love took me to Hawaii, on board ship
Again, a new kind of art for me
Resurrected that watercolor memory
A watercolor portrait artist I would be
I said “That’s the kind of Artist I am”
Dance costumes, Floral Design, Candlestick maker,
Working during the day, making art a night
I said, could I some day have the time to be
The full time artist I always wanted to be.
I said, I guess “That’s the kind of Artist I am”
Years went on and work did, too
Art I always did pursue
Retirement came, it’s true
And the blessing of Ventura, too
Time to take a pastel class, what fun
I really love this medium, can you tell?
I wonder if this was always the plan
Ah yes, “That’s the kind of Artist I am
